Like all of you, we have been devastated to witness the flash flooding disaster in Nepal and Tibet. Hundreds of lives have been lost, with many more still unaccounted for.
Immediately following the flood, Friends of Nepal donated $10,000 directly to the Nepali government’s relief efforts. The board and grants committee members reached out to our networks, and the consensus among people we respect and trust working in Nepal has been that the new government is working in a coordinated effort and is in the best position to provide immediate relief.
In the aftermath of these emergency efforts, we invite you to donate to the Friends of Nepal flood relief campaign. We believe that our networks and long history of working in Nepal enable us to find opportunities to fund projects that may be under the radar of larger organizations and making direct impacts on community rehabilitation. We also know that in the cases of natural disasters, large sums of money flow into immediate relief, but funders often do not stick around to assist with rebuilding efforts - some portion of our flood relief campaign will be reserved for these types of projects.
