Close to the end of the Obama Administration, the First Lady announced the Let Girls Learn Initiative targeting some 60 million girls worldwide who are denied education due to poverty and cultural norms. USAID and Peace Corps responded by adopting this challenge and theme. Nepal was among the first countries to be included in implementation of the Let Girls Learn program.
In 2017 and again in 2018 Friends of Nepal joined in this initiative by issuing a Small Grants Program Request for Proposals themed Let Girls Learn. Friends of Nepal awarded five grants of approximately $5000 each in 2017 and and in 2018, and we continue this very popular and effective program into 2019. Each of our grants has a Friends of Nepal member sponsor who works with the grantee in identifying, implementing and monitoring the awards. Friends of Nepal works through the sponsor in administering and reporting the grants.
Please consider sponsoring a project with a local civil society, school, village organization, or donating to this effort. Our efforts are in line with our Peace Corps philosophy of Small is Beautiful and inclusion.
We hope to grow our grants program by at least one additional grant per year, or $5000.00 per year.
Remember, as all work associated with administering Friends of Nepal is done pro-bono by Board Members, so our overhead is insignificant.
